Details for: Sinking of H.M.S. Fiji


Historical Data:
H.M.S Fiji was a Crown Colony Class Light Cruiser. In the Battle of Crete, she was sent to assist the stricken H.M.S. Gloucester. These two ships fought off a number of attacks, during which she expended all her anti-aircraft ammunition. She was then attacked and hit by bombs from Messeerschmitt Bf 109s before being crippled by a bomb that exploded nearby that blew ou ther bottom plates. She came to a standstill and was defenceless. She was then hit by three bombs from a Junkers 88 piloted by Gerhard Brenner. Captain William-Powlett gave the order to abandon ship and the Fiji rolled over and sank. 523 survivors were picked up, 241 crew were lost.
