Details for: HMS Aboukir was a Cressy class armoured cruiser

HMS Aboukir was a Cressy class armoured cruiser. On 22September 1914, she was hit by a torpedo fired by U-9 (commanded by Otto Weddigen). H.M.S Hogue was also hit and sunk while attempting to pick up survivors from her. HMS Cressy was also sunk in this engagement. 1459 men died, 837 were recued by several nearby merchantmen
