Details for: V-2 attack on Thursday 8th March 1945

Historical Data:
Thursday 8th March 1945. At 1102 hours, a V2 Rocket hit Smithfield Market with the loss of 110 lives, and 123 seriously injured. 25 of the dead came from Islington. The market was crowded when the rocket struck - reports of new stocks of rabbits had encouraged shoppers from all around the area to congregate at the market. Many women and young girls were among the casualties. This was the last rocket, and the last incident, to befall Islington. Although a number of people were to die in the coming months through injuries they had sustained in earlier incidents, no one was to die in the streets or their homes again.
