Historical Data:
Victory III was a shore-based base in Portsmouth. Frederick Day served as an Able Seaman on the SS Britannia. She sailed from Liverpool bound for Bombay via Freetown and Durban with a crew of 203 and 281 passengers. On the morning of Tuesday 25th March, she was attacked 750 miles west of Freetown and sunk by the German surface raider Thor with the loss of 249 of her passengers and crew. The Spanish steamer Bachi picked up one lifeboat with 63 people on board. A second lifeboat with 38 on board reached Brazil 23 days after Britannia's sinking
