Details for: Sinking of H.M.S. Egret


Historical Data:
H.M.S. Egret was a sloop of the Egret class. She was the first Allied ship to be sunk by a guided missile. On 27 August 1943, 30 nautical miles west of Vigo, Spain, she was attacked by a squadron of 18 Dornier Do-217 aircraft. One launched a Henschel Hs-293A guided bomb which hit the Egret, causing her to sink with the loss of 194 of her crew.
