Details for: Sinking of SS Hoihow


Historical Data:
H.M.S. President III was a shore-based accounting base, located first at Bristol, then Windsor and finally London. John Dally was an Acting Able Seaman, part of the DEMS gunnery team, on the SS Hoihow. She was a Cargo Steamer of 2,798 tons. On the 2nd July 1943 when on route from Mauritius for Tamatave she was torpedoed by German submarine U-181 and sunk. 144 persons lost from a total of 149
