Details for: Battle of Tafel Kop


Historical Data:
In December 1901 the British learnt that a force of Boer was in the vicinity of Tafelkop. They left the safety of the line of blockhouses and advanced in two columns under Cols Rimington and Damant. Unfortunatley the columns got separated. Damant gaine dhigh ground and from this vantage point could see Boer attacking men in distinctive British uniforms. He set off to aid them only to doiscover that it was a trick and the 'British' were Boer in disguise. Thwe British guns were caught in the open and their crews annihalted. Damant himself was shot four times. Though he survived, 33 British soldiers were killed and 45 wounded.
