Details for: V-1 attack on Wednesday 12th July 1944


Historical Data:
Wednesday 12th July 1944. A V1 flying bomb hit on the roadway opposite 84 Carleton Road on Wednesday 12th July 1944 approximately 40 yards from the junction of Crayford Road. A large crater was made in roadway, diameter about 25 feet, depth 10 feet. In Carelton Road, nos.79, 81 and 83 were demolished. Nos.84 to 86, St. George's Church Hall and supplementary accommodation Warden's Post N.6 were partly damaged and nos.75 to 77 and 80 to 82 were seriously damaged. Even nos.4 to 14 in St. George's Avenue were seriously damaged. Extensive damage caused by blast in surrounding streets. Five lives were lost in Carelton Road.
