The text below gives a summary of the conflict (i.e. war), event or incident that resulted in deaths in the Borough or abroad. On the right are listed the individual events and incidents, such as battles or air raids. For each conflict the total number of casualties are given, whereas for each event or incident the names of those who died are listed in alphabetical order.

Details for: Air raids on Monday 16th September 1940


Historical Data:
Monday 16th September 1940. At 0800 hours a major force of 350 aircraft were forced back before they could reach London for what was intended to be a major raid. Later, many single aircraft raids took place, including a number against London. A number of properties were damaged in Islington. Cross Street, Mackenzie Road, Edinburgh Cottages in Popham Street and Halton Mansion Shelter were hit with loss of 27 lives.
