Details for: Air raids on Sunday 15th September 1940

Historical Data:
Sunday 15th September 1940. In all over 600 aircraft took part in raids over Britain this day, especially against London and the south-east. From the British point of view, however, the day had witnessed a major victory. At 1400 hours, as waves of German aircraft crossed Kent and Sussex on their way to London, they were met by over 300 British fighters that hit them in the flank as they bombed London. This was a major blow to the morale of the already fatigued German bomber crews who had been told that Britain was down to its last 50 fighters. In all that day, 58 Luftwaffe aircraft were lost. In Islington, Provence Street, near St. Peter's Street, and Aden terrace were hit with the loss of two lives.
