Details for: Air raids on Wednesday 4th September 1940


Historical Data:
Wednesday 4th September 1940. On this day, which saw 25 Luftwaffe aircraft destroyed, the main raids were targeted on Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, Manchester, Liverpool and Southport. Isolated raids, however, took place against a variety of places around the country, including London. 18 civilians were killed throughout the day. A number of properties were damaged in Islington. Brownlow Street off Holborn was hit with the death of Eleanor Bowd, of Pembroke Street. She was the first Islingtonian civilian to be killed in the war.
